About the M14 x 2.0 thread

M14 x 2.0 is an ISO metric coarse thread with a 14.000 mm major diameter and a 2.0 mm pitch, giving a minor diameter of about 11.835 mm. In aluminum, brass and plastics, drill 12.1 mm for about 75% thread engagement. In steel, stainless and cast iron, step up to 12.7 mm for about 50% engagement, which cuts tapping torque and the risk of a broken tap while keeping most of the thread's strip strength. For an M14 screw to pass through, drill 14.75 mm for a close fit or 15.5 mm for a free fit.
