About the M12 x 1.25 thread

M12 x 1.25 is a metric fine thread with a 12.000 mm major diameter and a 1.25 mm pitch, giving a minor diameter of about 10.647 mm. In aluminum, brass and plastics, drill 10.8 mm for about 75% thread engagement. In steel, stainless and cast iron, step up to 11.2 mm for about 50% engagement, which cuts tapping torque and the risk of a broken tap while keeping most of the thread's strip strength. For an M12 screw to pass through, drill 13.0 mm for a close fit or 13.5 mm for a free fit.
